Professor H.M.J.C. Pitawala has been appointed Vice-Chancellor of Uva Wellassa University by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, the Government Information Department reported.
Secretary to the President Dr Nandika Sanath Kumanayake presented the appointment letter on 29 October. The appointment takes effect on 2 November 2026.
Appointment takes effect in November
Professor Pitawala previously served in the university’s Faculty of Applied Sciences. His appointment therefore places an academic already associated with the institution in its vice-chancellor role.
The official announcement identifies the appointee, the presentation of the letter and the effective date. It does not announce a separate package of university programmes or institutional reforms alongside the leadership change.
