Sri Lanka is exploring closer tourism cooperation with Türkiye, including ways to promote the island to Turkish travellers and learn from heritage-based destination development.
Deputy Foreign Minister Arun Hemachandra met Türkiye’s Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism, Dr Serdar Çam, in Ankara on 30 October during his official visit.
Learning from cultural destination development
The Government Information Department said the discussion examined Türkiye’s experience in archaeological conservation, cultural tourism and higher-value visitor experiences. Sri Lankan officials identified the integration of historical sites into tourism programmes as an area for knowledge exchange.
The two sides also considered links between institutions, cultural exchanges and wider people-to-people connections. The report describes cooperation opportunities under discussion; it does not announce a new travel package or a confirmed programme of joint tourism investments.
