The Cabinet has approved the signing of an agreement for a €10 million European Union grant intended to strengthen sustainable trade between Sri Lanka and the EU.
The proposed project will support greener trade practices, climate resilience and the capacity of institutions involved in commerce. It is also intended to help Sri Lanka meet international standards relevant to access to the EU market.
Four-year project to strengthen trade capacity
The Government Information Department said the Ministry of Trade, Commerce, Food Security and Cooperative Development plans to implement the project over four years.
Approval was granted to a proposal submitted by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake in his capacity as Finance Minister. This decision authorises the grant agreement to be signed; the report does not describe the full grant as already disbursed.
