Sri Lankan university leaders have taken part in a dialogue on introducing artificial intelligence responsibly across teaching, research and institutional administration.
The session was held at the University of Colombo’s Faculty of Medicine alongside the Committee of Vice-Chancellors and Directors conference. Digital Economy Deputy Minister Eranga Weeraratne and Education and Higher Education Deputy Minister Madhura Seneviratne attended.
Institutional leadership is central to implementation
The Government Information Department said the meeting focused on involving vice-chancellors and senior administrators in implementing the AI policy framework approved by the University Grants Commission.
Participants also examined how university digital development could align with the national transformation agenda. The initiative centres on leadership and institutional capacity, with attention to both the opportunities offered by emerging technologies and the responsibilities involved in using them across the state university system.
