Sri Lanka and Türkiye have signed an agricultural cooperation agreement intended to connect their farming institutions and expand the exchange of technical knowledge, according to the Government Information Department.
The memorandum was signed in Ankara on 27 October during talks between Sri Lankan Deputy Foreign Minister Arun Hemachandra and Türkiye’s Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, Dr Ahmet Bağcı.
Research and training at the centre of the agreement
The discussions covered modern farming methods, research, innovation and training. Officials also considered how stronger institutional links could support agricultural productivity and help farmers adopt sustainable practices.
Food security was another priority. The agreement provides a framework for joint work, with the emphasis now on turning diplomatic cooperation into practical initiatives for the two agricultural sectors. The announcement did not set out a separate implementation timetable or funding allocation.
