Sri Lanka is examining how Thailand develops and promotes heritage, cultural and lifestyle tourism as part of efforts to broaden its own destination offering.
Foreign Affairs and Tourism Minister Vijitha Herath visited Bangkok’s Songwat neighbourhood, Asiatique The Riverfront and Wat Pho temple during the programme.
Lessons from established visitor destinations
The Government Information Department reported that the visits provided insight into the development of varied visitor experiences and the integration of cultural heritage with tourism promotion. The use of technology was also among the areas considered.
The purpose was to identify approaches that could be adapted to Sri Lanka’s circumstances. The announcement describes a learning and engagement visit, without naming a new Sri Lankan construction project, tour product or investment commitment arising from it.
