Swiss airline Edelweiss has commenced direct flights between Zurich and Colombo, expanding air access to Sri Lanka for the tourism season.
The Ministry of Ports and Civil Aviation announced the service on 27 October, with the Government Information Department publishing its report on 28 October. Passengers and crew were welcomed at Bandaranaike International Airport with a traditional Kandyan performance.
Additional European air connectivity
The announced schedule provides for three weekly flights through May 2027. Passengers should check the airline’s current timetable and booking information, as operational schedules can change.
The service is intended to support inbound tourism and broaden connections with Switzerland. The official report linked stronger air access with potential benefits for tourism employment and foreign-exchange earnings, without providing a forecast for passenger numbers on the new service.
