Improved domestic flights and stronger international promotion were among the priorities discussed when tourism industry representatives met President Anura Kumara Dissanayake at the Presidential Secretariat on 28 October.
The meeting reviewed Sri Lanka’s targets of five million visitors and US$10 billion in tourism revenue by 2030. These were presented as goals, rather than achieved results.
Connectivity and registration priorities
Domestic air connections to Trincomalee, Batticaloa, Sigiriya and Jaffna received particular attention. Officials also discussed expanding the number of international airlines serving Sri Lanka and reviewed promotional campaigns already underway.
The Government Information Department said the discussion included accommodation registration with the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority and the protection of forest resources around tourist attractions. Industry associations and members of the tourism promotion task force took part, bringing transport, accommodation and conservation issues into the same planning discussion.
