Sri Lanka and the European Union have discussed possible cooperation on port development and renewable energy, including opportunities under the EU’s Global Gateway initiative.
Ports, Civil Aviation and Energy Minister Anura Karunathilaka met an EU delegation led by Asia-Pacific Director Peteris Ustubs. The discussion covered ongoing energy projects and ways to support a greener energy system.
Feasibility work needed for the Trincomalee proposal
The Government Information Department said the two sides also considered container-terminal development at Colombo Port and proposals for a green-energy hub near Trincomalee Port.
The Minister identified a feasibility study as a necessary step for the Trincomalee proposal. The report describes exploratory discussions and potential support, without announcing an approved construction programme or a final funding agreement for the proposed hub.
